Along the magnificent coastline of Brittany, Normandy and the Channel Islands, the Bass is the most challenging fish to catch. When you do hook one, it's fighting capabilities can leave you shaking. Theyre also excellent eating, although I prefer catch & release for these stunning fish.
Ollivier Berry runs a beautiful small business, just him and you on his RIB, moving swiftly around the Bay of St Malo chatting away, looking for fishing opportunities according to the wind, tide and weather. He's an experienced skipper, very passionate about fishing and he uses light gear to get more hookups and maximise the sporting experience. With an endless supply of hard bodied lures and soft plastics, Ollivier patiently taught us few of his tricks in tying rigs with poppers, jig heads and plastics, which we were grateful for. We've adopted some of these now at home in Sydney.
My son and I are very keen fishermen and Ollivier was one of the best and most entertaining guides we've met. He has a great sense of hunour, he's passionate about the St Malo area, he uses top quality tackle and he can show you all the little bays and the shoreline of St Malo which you cant get to without a small boat. He also does charters further afield, Chausey, Minquiers etc
Fishing is always a chance thing and for us it wasnt just about the fish we caught. Having said that, we hooked a good sized Bass but lost it soon after (listen to Ollivier... "be cool when you hook up, dont be in a hurry to strike!"). We did however catch John Dory, Pollack Wrasse and Cuttlefish so ...pleased with that!
I recommend Ollivier. Thanks mate - we had a blast!
